Recurrent Miscarriage & Early Pregnancy

Specialist assessment for women and couples experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss, with continuity into early pregnancy

Going through pregnancy loss once is hard enough. Facing it again brings a particular kind of fear that’s hard to put into words, and a need for real answers, not just reassurance that “it will happen next time.”

Our Recurrent Miscarriage & Early Pregnancy service is built around both of those needs: thorough, evidence-based investigation, and genuinely compassionate support, from a team who won’t rush you through it.

This may be for you if:

However many losses you’ve experienced, your grief and your questions are valid — and you deserve proper answers.

Investigating recurrent miscarriage

UK guidance generally recommends a full investigation after three or more consecutive early miscarriages, though we’re happy to see you sooner if that would bring you reassurance. Investigation typically includes testing for antiphospholipid syndrome — a treatable clotting condition, confirmed with two positive blood tests 12 weeks apart — thyroid function, genetic and chromosomal factors, and a pelvic ultrasound to check the shape of your uterus, with further imaging if needed.

What's included:

Support through your next pregnancy

If a treatable cause is found — such as antiphospholipid syndrome or a uterine abnormality — we’ll talk through the evidence-based treatment options available, from aspirin and blood-thinning medication to surgery where appropriate. For some couples, no single cause is ever found; when that happens, we’re honest about it, and focus on the early pregnancy monitoring and support that can make the next attempt feel less frightening — appropriate blood tests, ultrasound monitoring and specialist review, from as early as you want it.
