Specialist menopause assessment for women with a current or previous cancer diagnosis
Menopause symptoms after cancer treatment can be some of the hardest to get help with — many women are told HRT simply isn’t an option, without ever getting a proper, individual conversation about what actually is.
Our Menopause After Cancer service exists for exactly this conversation: a careful, specialist assessment of your symptoms, your cancer history, and the realistic benefits and risks of every hormonal and non-hormonal option available to you, coordinated with your oncology team, not working around them.
There is usually more that can be done than a blanket “no HRT” suggests — you deserve a proper conversation about your specific situation.
Every decision here depends on your specific cancer type, treatment history and current status — there’s no single answer that applies to all cancer survivors. For many women, non-hormonal medication and cognitive behavioural approaches are the mainstay for hot flushes and night sweats, while carefully considered local vaginal treatment may be appropriate for some women even after hormone-sensitive cancers, depending on individual circumstances. We look at your case specifically, and coordinate any recommendations with your oncology team.
You shouldn’t have to choose between managing your menopause symptoms and staying safe within your cancer care. Our role is to make sure both are considered together, properly, rather than menopause symptoms being treated as something to just live with after cancer.
This depends heavily on your specific cancer type, receptor status and treatment history — it’s not a blanket yes or no, and needs a careful, individual conversation, usually alongside your oncology team.
Several non-hormonal medications and cognitive behavioural therapy have good evidence for managing vasomotor symptoms after cancer — we’ll talk through what’s suitable for you.
Yes — coordinating with your oncologist is a core part of this service, so any recommendation fits safely within your wider cancer care.
Often, yes, with options ranging from non-hormonal moisturisers and lubricants to, for some women, carefully considered local treatment — this depends on your specific cancer history and is discussed individually.
Whenever you’re ready — during active treatment, in recovery, or years later if symptoms are only now becoming a problem.
