Assessment and treatment for women experiencing symptoms during the transition towards menopause
Perimenopause can arrive quietly and confusingly — periods that change without warning, sleep that falls apart, moods that don’t feel like your own — often years before anyone mentions the word “menopause”. If you’ve been told you’re “too young” for this, or that it’s “just stress”, you don’t have to face it alone.
Our Perimenopause Clinic gives you a proper specialist assessment of what’s actually happening in your body, and a treatment plan built around your symptoms and preferences, not a single default prescription
Your care is led by LUNA’s specialist menopause team — including Prof Bassel Wattar, Dr Sophie Clarke, Dr Vikram Talaulikar and Ms Esha Saha, a British Menopause Society-accredited menopause specialist — with years of experience helping women navigate this transition well. You’ll always see a specialist who takes your symptoms seriously, whatever your age.
None of this is “just in your head”, and you don’t have to just push through it.
We take a full history of your symptoms, cycles and medical background, and where useful, hormone blood tests to build a clearer picture, though perimenopause is often diagnosed on symptoms and age alone, without needing extensive testing. From there, we talk through the full range of options, including HRT (tablets, patches, gels or vaginal treatments), non-hormonal medication where HRT isn’t suitable or wanted, and lifestyle support, so the plan reflects what matters to you, not a default prescription.
For most women, straightforward treatment brings real improvement. If your symptoms persist despite treatment, or your medical history makes things more complicated, we can move you into our Complex Menopause Clinic without starting again from scratch — the same team, a deeper look.
Perimenopause is usually recognised from a pattern of symptoms and cycle changes, often from your late 30s onwards — blood tests can help but aren’t always necessary or reliable at this stage, since hormone levels naturally fluctuate.
No — perimenopause can start well before 45, and it’s taken seriously at LUNA regardless of your age. If your symptoms started earlier still, we’ll also check for premature ovarian insufficiency.
No — HRT is one of the most effective options for many women, but non-hormonal medication and lifestyle approaches are also available and discussed, depending on your preferences and medical history.
It varies significantly between women — anywhere from a couple of years to closer to a decade — which is part of why ongoing, personalised support matters more than a single appointment.
We’ll reassess and adjust your plan, and if needed, move you into our Complex Menopause Clinic for a deeper look, without you having to explain everything again from scratch.
