Outpatient hysteroscopy is usually well tolerated, and most women are back to normal activities the same day.
We typically begin with specialist, advanced ultrasonography — including saline infusion sonography where a closer look inside the uterus is needed — which can improve visualisation of polyps, fibroids and other abnormalities beyond what standard ultrasound alone can show. Where direct visualisation is still needed, outpatient hysteroscopy uses a thin camera to examine the uterine cavity directly, usually without a general anaesthetic, and any polyps found can often be removed at the same time.
