How BMI Relates to Fertility
Body mass index (BMI) is a screening measurement based on height and weight.
It is commonly used to classify weight ranges, but it does not directly measure body fat or overall health.
BMI can provide a general starting point when discussing weight and fertility, but it should not be used on its own to determine whether someone is fertile.
Two people with the same BMI can have very different muscle mass, body composition, metabolic health, and reproductive health.
A fertility specialist may therefore consider BMI alongside medical history, hormone levels, menstrual patterns, sperm analysis, lifestyle, and other fertility factors.
